Faith and Spirituality

DSDC recognises the way different faith communities act as agents in framing dementia.

Spiritual well-being and faith have critical roles to play in genuinely dementia-friendly communities, even if the spiritual issues dementia raises can sometimes be challenging and hard to address for people with dementia and for their carers.

Practical Resources

DSDC is working to promote greater understanding of spirituality and dementia through its research and practice.  It aims to provide practical support to individuals, institutions and communities including offering the following:

Spirituality and Dementia Study Days – these regular events explore the role, interpretation and implications of spirituality in the care and support of those with dementia

Community Development – working with BME communities and voluntary organisations around spirituality and dementia-friendly communities.

DSDC is looking to turn specialist research into culturally appropriate supporting materials over the next year.
