Enhancing activity engagement & the sensory environment for people with advanced dementia

Taking part in meaningful and enjoyable activities is really important in living well with dementia. The changes that dementia can bring sometimes mean that this is not easy.

This one day course that focuses on creating meaningful sensory based activity for people living with advanced dementia.  Enhancing activity engagement & the sensory environment for people with advanced dementia is a follow-on course from DSDC’s 2 day course Making activity meaningful for people with dementia, however you do not need to have taken the first course to attend this one.  Learn how to personalise sensory activity while supporting people to use their strengths to participate and engage with their environment in more meaningful ways.

After attending this course participants will:

- Have an increased understanding of the progression of dementia and its impact on sensory functioning
- Create meaningful sensory based programmes for people living with advanced dementia
- Recognise effective ways of personalising sensory interventions
- Identify ways of enhancing the sensory environment to facilitiate engagement
